About Chateau Hostens-Picant

Half an hour to the east of Saint-Emilion, the gentle rolling slopes of this 100 acre vineyard are the birthplace of a range of powerful, elegant and consistently excellent Bordeaux wines. Chateau Hostens-Picant’s vines benefit from a soil that is rich in both clay and limestone, giving the wines a good length in the mouth, whilst the plots of silex enhance the wines’ tonicity and minerality.

The vineyard’s origins stretch all the way back to the 15th century and when Yves and Nadine Hostens-Picant first established the winery, the couple set out to revitalize the Sainte-Foy Bordeaux appellation - one that had first been created in 1937 but had since fallen into disuse.

Family-owned

From the beginning of their adventure, Yves and Nadine Hostens-Picant made sure to surround themselves with a faithful and talented team who work hard to ensure the wines produced at Château Hostens-Picant show consistent quality and a unique identity.

Nowadays the couple’s two daughters, Charlotte and Valentine, have taken charge of the estate and work with the same passion they have inherited from their parents. Valentine develops the estate’s business in France and across the world whilst Charlotte, her big sister, deals with communication and tourism.

Winemaking

Right from the very earliest days, Yves and Nadine quickly understood the full potential of the estate’s flint, gravel, clay and limestone rich soil, and decided to do everything they could to help the terroir’s natural quality shine through in the wines they produce.

From its original 46 acres, the estate has steadily grown to 100 acres, with 75 of them being dedicated to red wine and 25 to white. Over time, the wines have been refined and have gained in both freshness and elegance, whilst the original identity that grew their reputation is still diligently protected.

Sustainability

In 2018 the family began their first organic trials in the vineyard, starting with 10 acres and growing to 25 the following year. Over the coming years, their goal is to convert the entire estate to organic winemaking and farming practices.
